Bengal SSC Scam: Mamata sacks minister Partha Chatterjee, removed from all posts

He has been relieved of his duties as Minister in Charge of his Departments with effect from 28th July by the West Bengal government

New Delhi: Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee, the key accused of the SSC recruitment scam in the state has been sacked by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee from the charges of all his departments with effect from July 28.

The action comes after huge cash worth Rs 50 crore, property documents, and 5 kg gold have been recovered from Chatterjee’s close aide in two raids conducted by Enforcement Directorate (ED) yet.

A notification issued by the West Bengal government says, “Partha Chatterjee, Minister in Charge, Department of Industry, Commerce and Enterprises, Department of Information Technology and Electronics, Department of Parliamentary Affairs and Department of Public Enterprises and Industrial Reconstruction, Govt of West Bengal hereby relieved of his duties as Minister in charge of aforesaid departments with effect from July 28, 2022”.

Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee were arrested on July 23 and are among the key accused of illegal appointments of school teachers and other staff during his tenure as Education minister in the state.

Earlier in the day, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh openly demanded the removal of the accused minister and expell him from the party membership for bringing embarrasement to the party.

“Partha Chatterjee should be removed from ministry and all party-posts immediately. He should be expelled. If this statement considered wrong, party has every right to remove me from all posts. I shall continue as a soldier of @AITCofficial”, Ghosh wrote in a tweet on Thursday.

Apart from Ghosh, TMC youth wing leader Debangshu Bhattacharya and MLA Biswajit Deb had also put similar views in public, demanding the party high command to take strong action against the latter.

Meanwhile, in the second round of raids, the probe agency has seized nearly Rs 27.90 crore cash and over 5 kg of gold from the flat of Partha’s close aide.
