Bharat Bandh: CM Arvind Kejriwal “under house arrest”; Delhi Police rubbishes AAP’s claim

Leaders of farmer groups have held several rounds of talks with the government but all of them remained inconclusive so far. After the fifth round of talks, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has called another meeting on December 9.

New Delhi:  Farmers protesting against the Centre’s agricultural sector laws have called a “Bharat Bandh” today after several rounds of talks with the government over the new farm laws remained inconclusive.

Farmer unions on Friday decided to intensify their agitation against the farm laws calling for ‘Bharat Bandh’ today stating that they were not satisfied with amendments to the agricultural legislations being proposed by the government. “The bandh will be observed throughout Tuesday, but the ‘chakka jam’ (road blockade) will be on only till 3 pm,” said Darshan Pal, Punjab unit president of the Krantikari Kisan Union said on Monday.

The Delhi Police has rubbished Aam Aadmi Party’s claim that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was put under house arrest after his visit to a farmers’ protest site at the Singhu Border on Monday. Refuting the AAP’s allegations, DCP of North Delhi, Anto Alphonse, issued a statement and shared a picture of the entrance of the CM’s house to prove that his movements have not been restricted.

Arvind Kejriwal had shown his support for the farm bills when he notified a gazette. Gazette is notified when the government accepts a bill administratively and politically. So he has given his acceptance to this bill already: Union Minister & BJP Leader Smriti Irani

I had said that APMC needs some reforms. APMC Act should continue but with reforms. There is no doubt that I had written the letter. But their three Acts does not even mention APMC. They are just trying to divert the attention. No need to give importance: NCP chief Sharad Pawar

While many mandi s in the national capital like Azadpur have supported the Bharat bandh call, several big market associations like Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place, Sadar Bazar and Sarojni Nagar have decided not to be part of it.

As per Delhi Police, security deployment at market areas has been increased to make sure that nobody puts pressure on shopkeepers to shut shops.
