This is Deputy Election Commissioners Sudeep Jain and Chandrabhushan Kumar’s first to the state amid the pandemic.

In their two-day schedule, the EC team today met DMs and SPs of 12 districts including Darbhanga, Madhubani and Sitamarhi at Muzaffarpur. The team is scheduled to meet DMs and SPs of 7 districts including Nalanda, Bhojpur and Buxar in the evening and then DGP Bihar Police.

Tomorrow, the team will hold review meeting at Bhagalpur and Bodhgaya. Before returning to Delhi, the Election Commission Team will take inputs from Chief Secretary and other senior officials in Patna.

Assembly elections in Bihar are due in October-November and the tenure of the current Assembly ends on November 29.

In its meeting, the EC team alerted the officials to make people aware of the precautions to be taken during campaigning and casting their votes.

Earlier in August, ECI had released election-related guidelines. The EC will prepare a detailed COVID-19 plan, taking local conditions into account.

The Election Commission of India is also considering a proposal to increase poll expenditure during the pandemic as political parties pitched for the same, sometime before.
