Bihar polls 2020: After 2014, political culture has changed, report cards have replaced casteist speeches, says Nadda

“Before 2014 elections, political leaders used to accuse each other of inciting hatred, casteism and breaking society, in their speeches. But after the election of PM Modi, the political culture has changed. Now leaders have to show their work report card,” said Nadda at an election rally in Bihar.

New Delhi: Political culture has undergone a drastic change after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA came to power in 2014, BJP chief J P Nadda said on Friday. Addressing an election rally in Bihar, Nadda said that parties and governments are now presenting their report cards during elections instead of taking resort to casteism and hatred through their speeches.

Speaking during an election rally, he said, “Before 2014 elections, political leaders used to accuse each other of inciting hatred, casteism and breaking society, in their speeches. But after the election of PM Modi, the political culture has changed. Now leaders have to show their work report card,” said Nadda. The BJP president made the remarks ahead of the Bihar assembly election, which is slated to commence on October 28.

BJP President also listed out development measures launched by Modi government.

He further said, “Narendra Modi has increased the self-esteem of women by constructing toilets in the homes of about 22 crore people.”

Nadda asserted that Bihar saw all-round progress under the NDA government. Rail, road, health and education sectors benefited in a big way. The BJP president also raised the contentious issues of Ram temple, abrogation of provisions of Article 370 that bestowed special status on Jammu and Kashmir, and scrapping of the practice of instant triple talaq.

On the issue of abrogation of article 370, Nadda added, “In 2019, you sent the people of BJP and JDU to the Lok Sabha. Those same MPs sent by you pressed the button in Parliament and abolished Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.”

Targeting Lalu’s RJD, Nadda said that it was now harping on development, but when in power, it extended “patronage and protection” to dreaded criminal-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin.

” Shahabuddin represented Siwan in the Lok Sabha multiple times. It was only when Nitish Kumar became the chief minister, he was sent to jail,” he said.

“People couldn’t muster courage to visit even Dak Bungalow crossing in the heart of the city after 7 pm,” Nadda said, citing lawless in the state during Lalu regime.

The BJP and the Janata Dal (United) are contesting on 121-122 seats respectively in the 243-member assembly.

Bihar assembly elections will be held in three phases–October 28, November 3, and 7 and the counting of votes will take place on November 10.
