New Delhi: Shrikant Tyagi, the national co-ordinator of BJP’s Yuva Kisan Samiti was on Friday booked by the Gautam Budh Nagar police for abusing & assaulting a woman in the housing society where the duo live. The altercation started over planting over some palm trees in Grand Omaxe Society in Noida’s Sector 93-B and turned ugly with BJP functionary pushing & threatening the woman, police said.
A video of their ugly spat surfaced on the social media and went viral, drawing sharp reactions from the netizens.
Following the incident, the BJP functionary has been booked by Noida police. He has been booked under Section 354.
“Shrikant Tyagi has been booked under Indian Penal Code section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on any woman, intending to outrage or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby outrage her modesty),” Additional DCP (Women Safety) Ankita Sharma said.
While the incident sparked anger on social media, drawing flak for the BJP leader, his pictures with top BJP brass including JP Nadda and Swatantra Dev Singh also surfaced on the social media.
What led to heated altercation
According to the Grand Omaxe Association of Apartment Owners, the incident happened on Friday afternoon as residents of the society objected to plantation of palm trees outside Tyagi’s ground floor residence in Alexander D tower.
As per the information, the owners of society disapproved of the plantation of palm trees, claiming that it was blocking the common passage area. They tried to convince Tyagi but he didn’t relent. When a group of residents objected to his ‘high-handedness’, he got furious and started abusing & threatening a woman.
In the video, he could be seen threatening, pushing the woman and even hurling abuses at her.
According to his Twitter profile, Tyagi is the National Executive Member, Bharatiya Janata Party (Kisaan Morcha) and National Co-Coordinator, Yuva Kisaan Samiti of the saffron party.
The residents are demanding that Tyagi apologises to them on camera.
However, the FIR copy does not describe Tyagi as politician belonging to BJP. Earlier, the accused claimed himself to be member of saffron party’s Kisan Morcha. However, the BJP has denied his association with the party.
BJP’s Noida unit chief Manoj Gupta said, “Tyagi had come to the party some four-five years ago with Swamy Prasad Maurya, who has now left the BJP. Tyagi was his disciple and not a member of the BJP.”
In 2019 also, the residents of society had a flare-up with Shrikant Tyagi, following which a complaint was lodged. The residents had called him out for encroaching upon the green belt of the common area and lodged the complaint. Following this, he was given 15 days time by Noida Authority to remove encroachment.
