New Delhi: While presenting the last full Union Budget of Modi govt 2.0, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a unique initiative for empowering the Vishwakarma community, a large class of people scattered across the country.
The PM VIKAS (Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman) yojana will work to give wings to these people engaged in various traditional & skilled professions. The government will provide them support by providing skills training, equipping them technology and also opening lines of credit to them for their all-round empowerment & development.
The PM VIKAS is aimed at unleashing the potential of thousands of artisans & craftsmen across the country. As the ‘Vishwakarmas’ harness the growth opportunities, they will add to the India growth story and become a strong constituent of nation’s growth.
The special package for country’s artisans & craftsmen under the PM VishwaKarma Kaushal Samman will help integrate them with MSME value chain. Once they get integrated with MSME chain, their score & scale of business opportunity will enhance multifold.
What FM Sitharama said on PM VIKAS?
The announcement of PM VIKAS was made by Finance Minister during her Budget speech.
“PM Vishwa Karma Kaushal Samman – package of assistance for traditional artisans and craftspeople has been conceptualized, will enable them to improve quality, scale and reach of their products, integrating with MSME value chain,” Sitharaman said in her speech.

Later, at the press conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also hailed the Union Budget 2023 and said that PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samaan (PM VIKAS) initiative will prove to be a gamechanger in bringing the artisans & craftsmen into the mainstream, thus accounting their contribution in India growth story.
