New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janta Party surprisingly turned the dice after the mid-hours during the counting of Lok Sabha by-polls in Rampur and Azamgarh, wherein there was a major face-off between BJP and Samajwadi Party.
In the first 15 rounds, SP leader Asim Raza was leading over BJP candidate in Rampur. In Azamgarh too, SP’s Dharmendra Yadav looked confident after the initial lead. However, after the 17th round, BJP’s candidate Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirhua started to overtake.
Around the same time, Ghanshyam Lodhi slowly started leaving Asim Raza behind in Rampur as well. It is estimated that Lodhi will win by at least 25 thousand votes.
“I dedicate my victory to the workers of the party. They have been working continuously day and night. I want to thank the people of Rampur. BJP has always been working for the development of the public,” BJP’s winning candidate Lodhi said.

BJP national general secretary BL Santhosh further expressed his happiness on unfurling lotus in Azam Khan’s stronghold saying, “History being made. BJP wins Rampur LS by-election by 37,797 votes. Azamgarh is also about to win. The death knell to communal, divisive, minority appeasement politics. The mandate for Politics of Vikas practised by PM Narendra Modi ably assisted by CM Yogi Adityanath”.
The Lok Sabha seat of Rampur got vacant after the resignation of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav as he was recently elected as the MLA in previously concluded state Assembly elections.
