CM Yogi orders immediate promotion for 900 PAC jawans

UP CM orders promotion of PAC jawans: Yogi Adityanath has also asked DGP to launch a probe and identify the officer for demoralizing the police force.

New Delhi: In a major relief for Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) jawans in Uttar Pradesh, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered immediate promotion of these personnel.

About 900 PAC constables were promoted during their deputation in district police but were later demoted when they were sent back to PAC.

“The CM has instructed the director of police to ensure the promotion of personnel as per the rules. He has said that the officers who took this decision without informing the government should be held accountable and a report should be made available to the government related to the same,” CMO said in a release.

Ordering immediate promotion of these jawans, CM Yogi said that there must not be any decision which lowers the morale of constables.

The chief minister has also asked DGP to launch a probe and identify the officer for demoralizing the police force without taking approval from the government.

PAC jawans in UP

Reportedly, an ADG level officer took this decision which led to fiasco.

In 932 of PAC, 910 jawans were promoted. Six people were promoted to SI and 904 head constables. In 904, 14 either retired or died. The remaining 890 were in the rank of head constable in the civil police. They were sent back to PAC as constables, reports said.

According to UP Police, in 1948 the UP Military Police and UP State Armed Constabulary were amalgamated into the Provincial Armed Constabulary. PAC was created to prevent the frequent deployment of the Army in grave law and order situations that the local police could not handle on its own. Even though it was meant for the UP, the PAC has had the privilege of serving across the length and breadth of the country.
