CM Yogi visits Covid-hit Aligarh Muslim University, takes stock of situation; calls for speeding up vaccination drive

CM Yogi held a meeting with the Vice Chancellor and other administrative officials including the the representatives from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University regarding the covid situation in AMU campus and the vaccination drive.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), the first by any UP CM in decades. He took stock of the arrangements made to prevent the spread of corona infection and held discussions with Vice-Chancellor Tariq Mansoor, and other officials after several serving professors succumbed to Covid-19 in the past few weeks.

The Chief Minister visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College campus on Thursday and monitored the facilities available for treatment of patients in Aligarh and AMU in particular. He also went for the on-ground inspection of the integrated Command and Control Centre and reviewed the healthcare available for COVID patients.

Before his visit, the CM had earlier expressed concern and grief over the tragic deaths of the professors and staff of AMU including 16 faculty members, on campus. He had called up university Vice-Chancellor Professor Tariq Mansoor, assuring him of all the help to fight the Covid-19 menace.

He had assured all possible assistance in terms of medicines, medical equipments, availability of ambulance and oxygen cylinders for Covid treatment.

To firm up preventive measures against the spread of the deadly virus, the Chief Minister asked for a detailed report inquiring about ongoing activities in the University.

‘Ramp up vaccination drive to provide safety shield’

In order to give a wider coverage of the immunisation programme and to bring the transmission levels down, CM Yogi in a high-level meeting with the administrative officials issued a slew of instructions to accelerate the vaccination drive and to increase the number of vaccination centers so that people are provided a safety shield at the earliest.

The CM held a meeting with the Vice Chancellor and other administrative officials including the the representatives from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University regarding the covid situation in AMU campus and the vaccination drive.

Besides, to enable early detection and treatment of covid, CM Yogi also issued directives to double the covid testing as per the target of ‘Test, Trace and Treat’.

In addition, the Chief Minister also instructed the district administration to hold virtual meetings with public representatives once every week. With this, to increase manpower in hospitals for effective and timely medical care of covid patients, regular para medical training must be given to the volunteers.

Yogi reiterated the importance of double masking, distancing and hand hygiene and said that the mask should seal the air passage around the nose and mouth for proper protection.

The Aligarh Muslim University was established in 1920 by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, which became a Central University in 1921.
