Cong leader Angkita Dutta ‘pays price’ for charges against IYC chief, expelled from party

Angkita Dutta had filed a police complaint on Wednesday at Assam’s Dispur police station, where she accused Srinivas BV of “sexism, mental & physical harassment and also outraging her modesty.”

New Delhi: Days after Assam President of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) Angkita Dutta leveled harassment charges against national President of IYC Srinivas BV, the Congress party expelled her for a period of six years, with immediate effect.

In a press release issued by Tariq Anwar, it said that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) sacked Angkita Dutta for anti-party activities.

Notably, the action against IYC Assam unit chief comes days after she accused Srinivas & also secretary-in-charge of youth unit Vardhan Yadav of harassment.

Angkita Dutta had filed a police complaint on Wednesday at Assam’s Dispur police station, where she accused Srinivas BV of “sexism, mental & physical harassment and also outraging her modesty.”

She alleged that Srinivas was harassing & torturing her for past 6 months and was making sexist comments against her. She claimed that she was threatened with severe consequences by the IYC chief, if she complains with top leadership.

She had claimed that she also escalated the matter to former Congress President Rahul Gandhi but the party refused to pay heed to her charges.

She posted a series of tweets, where she lashed out at Gandhi siblings Priyanka & Rahul Gandhi for ‘keeping mum’ on her allegations and not initiating any action against Srinivas.

In reply to her charges, Srinivas has also sent a legal notice to Angkita Dutta accusing her of defamation & ‘sullying his image’ for personal ambitions.

Angkita Dutta is the daughter of Anjan Dutta, former minister in Assam Govt during Tarun Gogoi tenure. He also served as the Assam unit chief of Congress.
