‘Decide whether Bilkis Bano is a woman or a Muslim’: Mahua Moitra over the release of 11 convicts

New Delhi: Days after the release of Bilkis Bano’s rapists, TMC leader Mahua Moitra took to Twitter and said that the nation should decide if ‘Bilkis Bano is a woman or a Muslim’.

 Bilkis Bano, is the survivor of one of the most horrific gang rape cases during the  2002 Gujarat riots.

Her rapists were release recently under the Gujarat government remission policy.

This nation had better decide whether Bilkis Bano is a woman or a Muslim.

MahuaMoitra, sharing Bilkis Bano’s statement has also raised a question on “How can justice for any woman end like this?”

In the statement released by Bilkis Bano, she said that her rapists had shaken her faith in the justice system. She has also appealed to the Gujarat government to ‘undo the harm’ and give her back the right to live her life.

Bilkis was 20 years old and over five months pregnant when she was gangraped by men that she had apparently known for years in Dahod’s Limkheda taluka.

It was in 2008, when the11 convicts were sentenced to life in prison by a special CBI court, but the decision was later upheld by the Gujarat High Court.
