Delhi Budget 2023: 3 double-decker flyovers, big outlay for upgradation of roads; Key takeaways

Presenting the Budget, Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot announced that 3 double-decker flyovers would be built in the capital. This will be part of over 2 dozen flyovers/bridges planned in the city for beautification & upgradation of road infrastructure in the city.

New Delhi: Delhi Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday presented a whopping Rs 78,800 crore Budget for the financial year 2023=24. The Budget has laid major emphasis on infrastructure, health & education and its focus revolves largely around ‘clean, beautiful, and modern Delhi’.

The Budget was scheduled for Tuesday but apparently got delayed over Centre’s objection to AAP govt’s outlays in various sectors.

Delhi Budget for FY 2023-24 stands almost 2.5 times bigger than the financial year 2014-15, as it stood at mere Rs 30,940 crore.

Presenting the Budget, Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot announced that 3 double-decker flyovers would be built in the capital. This will be part of over 2 dozen flyovers/bridges planned in the city for beautification & upgradation of road infrastructure in the city.

With an allocation of Rs 19,466 crore, the AAP government has kept big ambitions of revamping the road infrastructure in city. Under the project, target of upgrading 1,400 kms of Delhi roads has been set for over a period of 10 years.

In further announcement on improving the transport sector, Gahlot said that three world class inter-states bus terminals will be set up. An outlay of Rs 9,333 crore has been allocated to the Transport department. It will also procure 1600 new electric buses under the project.

What is double-decker flyover? Who will build it?

As the name suggests, the double-decker flyover will have two bridges overlapping/crossing each other at some intersection. The lower deck will see plying of cars & vehicles while the upper deck will be for metro tains.

The proposed plan will be executed by Delhi government in collaboration with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The three double-decker flyovers would be built a cost of Rs 320 crore, said the Budget statement.

Routes to be covered by double-decker flyovers

According to the proposed plan, the double-decker flyovers will be stretched from

1) Bhajanpura to Yamuna Vihar
2) Azadpur to Rani Jhansi intersections
3) Saket to Prahaladpur.
