Delhi MCD Standing Committee Polls: BJP alleges AAP councillor Devendra Kumar slapped Pramod Gupta, shares video

BJP alleges that AAP councillor Devendra Kumar slapped their councillor, Pramod Gupta.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s Shelly Oberoi was elected as the new Mayor of MCD and the election for the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi witnessed an uproar and rampage in the House. Both AAP and BJP leaders were seen creating a ruckus and the episode even escalated to a scuffle. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has shared a video claiming that an AAP councillor slapped one of their councillors.

BJP alleges that AAP councillor Devendra Kumar slapped their councillor, Pramod Gupta.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said that AAP’s councillor Devendra has slapped BJP’s Pramod. He added that the people of Delhi are seeing how wrongdoings took place in the MCD’s Mayor election. He said that he was present in the house where the elections of mayor and deputy mayor were completed peacefully but then AAP’s councillors created a ruckus.

A video of the incident has been tweeted by Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor. While sharing this video, he asked Delhi’s commissioner to take an action against Devendra Kumar for slapping Pramod Gupta. He also tagged news agencies and asked that the original recording must be seized and action should be taken. 

The chaos erupted when BJP alleged that AAP councillors were taking photographs during secret ballot voting. There was chaos and sloganeering from both sides while ballot boxes were thrown.

Shelly Oberoi also alleged that BJP councillors attacked her. Videos of both sides taking part in the scuffle are making rounds on the internet and the house has been adjourned till 10 am on February 24.
