Delhi riots: Intelligence Bureau employee killed, body found in drain in Chand Bagh area

Ankit Sharma, the 26-year-old officer was killed by stone-pelting mob in Delhi’s Chand bagh area last night. Later, his body was dumped in the drain.

New Delhi: An Intelligence Bureau (IB) employee was on Wednesday found dead in riot-hit northeast Delhi. His body was recovered from a drain in Chand Bagh area.

Ankit Sharma, the 26-year-old officer was killed by stone-pelting mob in Delhi’s Chand bagh area last night. Later, his body was dumped in the drain.

According to reports, the officer had joined Intelligence Bureau in 2017 and was training as a driver. He was allegedly attacked by a violent mob on the Chand Bagh bridge and beaten to death while he was returning home. The mob later threw his body into the drain.

Family members of the young IB officer are grief-stricken while his colleagues are in deep shock over his sudden death.

Meanwhile, the death toll in rioting over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the North-East Delhi has risen to 20 by Wednesday.

CM Kejriwal wants Army deployment in Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said Delhi Police, despite all efforts, is “unable to control the situation and instill confidence” in view of violence in the capital and recommended calling in the Army.

“I have been in touch with large number of people whole night. Situation alarming. Police, despite all its efforts, unable to control situation and instil confidence. Army should be called in and curfew imposed in rest of affected areas immediately. Am writing to Home Minister to this effect,” Kejriwal tweeted.
