
New Delhi: Sant Baba Ram Singh, a Sikh priest from Karnal district of Haryana died by suicide today at the Singhu border, the epicentre of farmers protests against the recently passed farm laws.
The 65-year old Sikh priest reportedly shot himself with a licence gun. He was rushed to a private hospital in Panipat where the doctors declared him brought dead. It is learnt that his followers refused to get his post-mortem done.
Sant Baba Ram Singh was a religious preacher with followers in Haryana and Punjab.
He is also learnt to have left behind a suicide letter in which he wrote that he took the extreme step as he couldn’t see excruciating pain of farmers.

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday expressed anguish over Sikh priest Baba Ram Singh’s death and said that his sacrifice will not go in vain.
Akali Dal chief tweeted, “Anguished to hear that Sant Baba Ram Singh ji Nanaksar Singhra wale shot himself at Singhu border in Kisan Dharna, looking at farmers’ suffering. Sant ji’s sacrifice won’t be allowed to go in vain.”

Thousand of farmers, mainly from Punjab and Haryana, are protesting at several border points of Delhi demanding scrapping of Centre’s three new farm laws. Today was 21 days of protest.
