Flag Foundation of India welcomes amendment in Flag code, move to boost ‘Har Ghar tiranga’ campaign

The Flag Foundation India welcomed the amendment to the Flad Code of India on Friday, saying it promotes the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative.

New Delhi: The Flag Foundation India welcomed the amendment to the Flad Code of India on Friday in its statement. It said the amendment will promote ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative. The statement came amid the demand by Congress to scrap the amendment to the Flag Code of India 2002.

In the amendment made last year, the government allowed machine-made polyester flags. It is reported that earlier only handspun or handwoven or cotton or silk khadi bunting was allowed.

Issuing the statement, the Flag Foundation India said, ”During the UPA Government, MHA clarified to Shri Naveen Jindal, MP on 15th February 2005, stating that neither the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act 1971, nor the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1950 impose any restriction on the fabric to be used for the National Flag.”

”The MHD letter further added that even the Flag Code of India provides flexibility and does not intend to restrict regard to the fabric for the National Flag.”

The Foundation also wrote, ”The criticism to the addition of Polyester to the amended Flag Code is out of ignorance. This amendment only reaffirms, what was already clarified by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2005.”

It is expected that the amendment will give a boost to the ‘Har Gha Trinang Inititative’ of the Government of India and remove doubts from people’s minds.
