Gujarat govt sets up separate wards in 4 cities for tackling Mucormycosis, a deadly fungal infection

The Chief Minister said that all necessary medicines and injections being ordered for Mucormycosis at Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot for which separate wards have been created.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today visited Community Covid Care Centres set up under the state-wide ‘Maru Gaam, Corona Mukt Gaam’ campaign at Chekhla village in Sanand taluka in Ahmedabad district.

In a message to the entire state while speaking with the villagers at the common meeting place, he said the second wave is much more severe, fast spreading and fatal, often affecting the entire family. There is need to be all the more alert.

Mr. Rupani said the State Government is committed to combat and control the virus with people’s participation, when the intent and direction is right. All should strictly follow preventive measures and protocols as directed by the State Government, but should not panic. As compared to other states, there is a downward trend in Gujarat.

He said that ‘Gram Yoddha Committee’ has been formed in over 16,000 villages of the state and undertaken individual surveillance of about 50 lakh people, while 5,000 patients are in isolation. He fervently appealed to the villagers to get tested after noticing symptoms like fever, cold and cough, and if found positive seek treatment at the Covid Centres.

Talking to media persons, he said that at present 1.40 lakh tests are carried out daily in the state, getting adequate assistance from the Central government. The state needs 1,000 MT oxygen daily and if needed, more oxygen can be arranged, also with the help of Central government. The number of beds in the state has been increased from 45,000 on March 15 to one lakh now.

He said that a drive has been launched to carry out surveillance in 50 lakh homes in the state, while patients tested positive are isolated. Nearly 5-lakh patients have recovered so far in the state and have gone home. The recovery rate is higher than admission.

Describing vaccine as the infallible weapon against coronavirus, he asked people to get vaccinated. Seven lakh Remdesivir injections have been provided in the state.

Mr. Rupani said that all ministers, officers, office-bearers in the state are busy to make the villages corona-free under the campaign.

Rural Development Commissioner Vijay Nehra said that Gujarat is the first state in the country to launch a campaign like ‘Maru Gaam, Corona-Mukt Gaam’.

Ahmedabad District Collector Sandip Sagale acquainted the Chief Minister with the arrangement to fight the pandemic coronavirus Covid-19 in the district. There are 2,924 beds at 466 Covid Care Centres, equipped with necessary medicines, vaccines, oximeter, thermal guns, screen vaporisers, ayurvedic medicines and even yoga facility for primary healthcare. Over 4-lakh tests have been carried out, 5,989 found positive and being given intensive treatment. Mobile laboratory vans and testing vans are making rounds of the talukas. In all, 3,14,473 people above-45 have been vaccinated, which is 86 per cent of the target. An oxygen bank is being set up.

Ahmedabad’s District Development Officer Arun Mahesh Babu said that sanitisation drive has been carried out in 7.50 lakh household, distributed one lakh herbal concoction Ukala packets, 5,55,667 Ukala doses, 4.84-lakh homoeopathic medicines thus covered 10-lakh people with the help of 30 Dhanvantari Raths. The number of beds in the district has been increased from 300 to 1,779, including 76 ICU beds with ventilators and 662 oxygen beds.

There are 865 beds in 40 private hospitals in the district, besides 450 beds at Sola Civil Hospital. In all, 11,932 Remdesivir injections have been allotted for government and private designated hospitals.

Seven ambulances, mobile laboratory vans, two digital X-Ray machines, two sonography colour machines, 12 binocular microscope, six oxygen concentrators have been arranged from Union Minister Amit Shah’s MPLAD grant for Sanad and Bavla.

More facilities are being arranged in collaboration with Tata Foundation, Zydus Foundation and Maruti.
