Interesting facts about former PM Dr Manmohan Singh
1. Born in Gah village in Punjab, that now falls under Pakistan’s territory, lost his mother as a child and was raised by his Grandmother.
2. Singh spend first 12 years of his life in the village with no electricity, before migrating to Indian side of Punjab after partition.
3. He have completed his Bachelor and Master degree in Economics from Punjab University in Hoshiarpur and further perused his Economics Tripos from University of Cambridge.
4. Manmohan Singh worked for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), from 1966 to 1969.
5. In 1987, he was awarded with the Padma Vibhushan award.
6. Dr Singh became the first Sikh Prime Minister of India and served the post for two consecutive terms from 2004 – 2014.
7. Manmohan Singh cannot read Hindi and all his speeches during his term were written either in English or Urdu.
8. Manmohan Singh was listed as ‘Times Top 100 Influential People in the World’ in 2005.
