Hearing on Gyanvapi case concludes in Varanasi court; verdict tomorrow

The fresh hearing of the Gyanvapi mosque case has been concluded for today in Varanasi district court.

New Delhi: The fresh hearing of the Gyanvapi mosque case has been concluded for today in Varanasi district court. Notably, the Court of district judge Ajay Kumar Vishvesh heard 3 petitions today. The court will issue its verdict in the case tomorrow.

During the hearing, the court heard the Muslim and Hindu sides. Meanwhile, it is reported that the Hindu side asked for a copy of the videography survey.

Varanasi District Judge Dr AK Vishvesha heard a civil suit in the case. “The hearing was completed and the decision has been kept reserved. The next date of hearing will be given. We had given an application to provide us with a CD and photographs of the report submitted by the commission,” Advocate Vishnu Jain, representing the Hindu side told media persons.

Only 23 people, including 19 counsels and four petitioners, were allowed inside the courtroom during the hearing today, police said.

Earlier on May 20, the Supreme Court ordered to transfer the case to the district judge of Varanasi, viewing the complexity of the matter.

The case was heard in the apex court by a bench of Justices DY Chanderachud, Surya Kant, and PS Narasimha. In the order, the top court further added that its interim order passed on May 17 — to protect the area where the Shivling was found and access to Muslims for namaz — shall continue in operation till the maintainability of the suit is decided and thereafter for eight weeks to enable parties to pursue legal remedies..
