Hyderabad; Restaurants flooded, cars swept away due to heavy rainfall (Video)

Hyderabad has been experiencing heavy rainfall since Friday evening. Major low-lying areas have been flooded.

New Delhi: Hyderabad has been experiencing incessant rainfall since Friday evening, causing floods in major areas of the city. Several low-lying areas in the city remain inundated as they received 10-12cm of rain within three hours, between 8:30 PM and 11:00 PM.

Reportedly, two people are missing after being swept by strong currents in the low-lying area. The rescue team has been incorporated to search the two missing men, said K Purushottam, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Vanasthalipuram.

Videos and pictures of water-logged areas are going around on social media. In one of the video clips shared by ANI, people are sitting and having food in a restaurant in the Old City, where their ankles were submerged in floodwater.

Other video shows cars and vehicles parked in the lanes are floating and some are being swept away in areas where the strength of the currents was stronger.

Eight flights have been diverted to its nearby cities. Six have been diverted to Bengaluru while one each Vijaywada and Chennai.

Many residents of the city are recalling the horrific flood caused the previous year in the month of September-October. On social media, they are accusing the city administration of not working on the improvement of infrastructure.

One man from Chintalkunta reportedly was swept away by the currents, however was later saved.

Besides, more rains are expected on Saturday, warned Hyderabad mayor Vijayalaxami Gadwal. She asked the citizens to stay indoors. “Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the city. Monsoon emergency teams are on the field. Citizens are advised to stay indoors unless needed.
