New Delhi: Escalating its offensive on the Centre over Income Tax survey at British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)’s offices in Delhi & Mumbai, the Congress party launched a frontal attack on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a press conference over ‘sealed’ BBC offices, Cong slammed the Centre for ‘stifling’ press freedom and took a father of hypocrisy swipe at the Prime Minister.
“India is the mother of democracy but why is India’s Prime Minister ‘Father of hypocrisy’ What will you get after sending IT-D to BBC office? Will his image get better?,” said Cong spokesperson Pawan Khera.
Also, raising questions over India’s constant decline on press freedom index, Khera said, “In the world’s press freedom index, India’s situation is dire compared to our neighboring countries. So, what happened yesterday will it ever help the rankings?”
The Congress party also accused Modi government of unleashing its agencies on those who arduously & assiduously work to uncover the truth.
Khera claimed that the government got moving and ‘let loose’ its agencies for a vindictive purpose. He said that first the BBC documentary was banned and now the organization is being ‘harassed’ for raising questions on Godhra massacre.
Yesterday, BJP gave a strong counter to Congress accusations and termed the furuore over documentary as Congress agenda, coupled with BBC’s propaganda.
Taxmen are currently stationed at BBC’s offices in Delhi & Mumbai, investigation the financial sheet of company for alleged tax evasion. The searches at BBC office comes, days after two-series BBC documentary named – ‘India: The Modi Question’.
