New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to intense rain in Mumbai city and surrounding areas in the aftermath of cyclone Tauktae said the local civic body. IMD has also predicted gusty winds with rain over the next few hours on Tuesday.
IMD forecasted the speed of gusty winds might reach up to 80-90 kmph, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation quoting the IMD forecast issued at 7 am. Officials also said that, two people lost their lives in the neighboring Palghar, while one person died in Thane in separate incidents caused by the severe cyclonic storm.

One such incident took place late on Monday night when a 50-foot wall of a society and street light pole fell on the four vehicles parked below. The incident took place in Lokapuram in Thane but there were no casualties.

The cyclone passed close from the Mumbai coast between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM on Monday as it went towards Gujarat. The BMC recorded 189 mm rain at Colaba in south Mumbai and 194 mm at Santacruz in the western suburbs.
Mumbai saw gusty winds reaching the speed of 114 kmph on Monday, while, heavy showers lashed the city and its neighboring areas said the civic body.
