In Haryana, minor Hindu boy lynched for greeting girl of another religion on New Year eve

Ravi had friendship with a girl of minority religion named Mubin. On 31st December, he went to meet her and wish her happy new year. He left his house around 8 PM but when he didn’t return that night, the family got worried and started looking out for him. The next morning, they found his body in the fields around 7.30 AM.

New Delhi: A shocking incident of lynching has come to light from Haryana, where a minor Hindu boy was killed on the New Year eve. His crime was that he visited the girl’s residence belonging to minority community to wish her on the new year.

The incident is of Sandal Kalan village of Sonepat district in Haryana, where the families lived about 5 kms apart. Ravi’s dead body was found in the fields on January 1, 2021. Shockingly, Ravi was just 16 years old, a minor.

According to a leading news portal Swarajya, Ravi had friendship with a girl of minority religion named Mubin. On 31st December, he went to meet her and wish her happy new year. He left his house around 8 PM but when he didn’t return that night, the family got worried and started looking out for him. The next morning, they found his body in the fields around 7.30 AM.

Ravi was immediately taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

While on way to the hospital, Ravi told family members that he was brutally beaten up with rods and sticks by Mubin’s family members.

Ravi was the sole breadwinner of his family, besides his father Vedpal. Ravi has 1 brother and 4 sisters, 3 of which are married while one goes to college. He used to work as a security guard and earned Rs 9,000 per month.

Ravi belongs to Dhanak community, a Scheduled Caste in Haryana. All 5 accused were arrested, apparently on murder charges.

The incident comes days after the broad daylight murder of Nikita Tomar during an abduction bid by person named as Tausheef. Nikita’s family had claimed that Tausheef was harassing her for long for marriage and also pressurizing her to adopt Islam as her religion.
