New Delhi: Karnataka underwent Assembly Elections on May 10 with the results to be announced on May 13. The poll concluded for 224 seats with a 65.69 percent voter turnout. The Exit Polls released by India Today-Axis My India predict a clear majority for Congress with an estimate of 122-140 seats.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the party with the most number of seats in the 2018 polls while initially Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) formed the government in coalition after BJP’s CM candidate BS Yediyurappa was not able to prove a majority. The Assembly witnessed another situation of turmoil when 16 Congress MLAs resigned and an individual MLA turned to BJP and the party formed the government. Currently, BJP’s Basavaraj Bommai is the sitting Chief Minister of the state.
BJP won 104 seats last time while Congress and JD(S) won 80 and 37 respectively. BJP and Congress are the two big contenders with JD(S) as the third largest party in the state.
