New Delhi: Dahi Handi celebrations kicked off in Mumbai & other cities on Thursday morning, with ‘Govindas’ all set to burst the hanging pot with thousands of spectators gathering on the streets to mark the occasion.
The fervor & gaiety was palpable at multiple Dahi Handi spots in the city as Mumbaikers gathered to watch the ‘Govindas’ forming a pyramid to break the Handi.
Dahi Handi celebrations owe special connection to the metropolitan city as it witnesses many remarkable locations, which have become highly popular for this. The first Dahi Handi was broken in Mumbai’s Dadar which saw ‘Govindas’ forming a 8 tier pyramid.
For the Dahi handi ceremony, group of boys/girls make human pyramid to break the Handi filled with curd & hung at certain height from ground. The festive celebration marks a show of individual strength & teamwork.
As Govindas in Mumbai and other cities climb up the pyramid to break the Dahi Handi, many videos surfaced on the social media capturing the auspicious moment and a glimpse of people brimming with joy & excitement.
Dahi Handi, which exemplies Lord Shri Krishna’s love for makkhan, is celebrated widely in Maharashtra, Goa & Gujarat.
