Like ‘Make in India’, make ‘Marriage in India’ a reality: PM Modi’s appeal at U’khand Global Investors Summit

“If 5,000 weddings take place in Uttarakhand every year, this will bring unprecedented change in Uttarakhand’s infrastructure & well-being,” PM Modi said.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday made a strong pitch for developing Uttarakhand and its various picturesque locations as a wedding destination for upliftment of local economy.

Speaking at the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit in Dehradun, PM Modi said that just like ‘Make in India’, another trend should begin in the country, Uttarakhand in particular – ‘Wed in India’. He urged youth of the nation to help begin a new wedding destination trend in the hilly & holy state.

In our country, it is said that marriages are made in heaven and hence newly-weds prefer to begin their marital life by first taking blessings from the deity. But, they choose foreign locations for wedding. Wouldn’t it be good that they prefer domestic destination for wedding.

He said that one young person from a family should decide to exchanges martial vows in Uttarakhand and help position it as ‘destination wedding’ state.

“If 5,000 weddings take place in Uttarakhand every year, this will bring unprecedented change in Uttarakhand’s infrastructure & its well-being,” he said.

PM Modi also said that India is bound to become world’s third-largest economy soon and this would happen during his third term of governance.

Notably, PM Modi first talked about ‘destination weddings’ in his 107th edition of Mann Ki Baat. Citing his concern over the trend, he said & had urged the ‘big families’ to do it at home locations, as this will not only save country’s money from going overseas but will also make the couple ‘talk of town’.
