Manipur horror: Photo of key accused, part of mob who paraded women naked, surfaces

The 32-year-old accused is the same person who was seen wearing a green T-shirt in the viral video, that left the nation seething with anger & demanding strictest of action.

New Delhi: After the horrific video of two tribal women being paraded naked surfaced on social media creating huge uproar and furore, the Manipur police nabbed a key accused on Thursday morning. He is understood to be the one who led the mob in disrobing the women & parading them naked through the streets.

The key accused has been unmasked. Police on Thursday released the pictures of main accused named Huirem Herodas Singh. The 32-year-old accused is the same person who was seen wearing a green T-shirt in the viral video, that left the nation seething with anger & demanding strictest of action. He was seen holding one of the women during the gruesome assault.

Though, the police nabbed one of the accused today, the sad part is that it comes after months of incident, which happened on May 4. Making first arrest in the case, after 77 days of horrific crime, exposes the sorry state of affairs in state & police administration. Despite FIR lodged after the incident, the police didn’t initiate action till now.

In the video, hundreds of people could be seen behind the naked women, being paraded through the Manipur streets. Reports suggest that they were sexually harassed and gangraped also by the mob.

The appalling video of two women being disrobed & paraded naked while sexually assaulting them on camera started circulating on social media on Wednesday, created widespread anger & outrage.

Manipur police says that more arrests will be made soon, however, the action coming after more than 77 days of ghastly crime raises big questions.
