Miraculous rescue on tracks: A pointsman in Mumbai risks his live to save a child (WATCH)

This incident took place at platform no. 2 of Vangani railway station in Mumbai around 5 pm on Saturday, April 17.

New Delhi: A pointsman with the Central Railway (Mumbai division) has become a Twitter sensation and is being hailed as a hero after he saved the life of a child who almost ‘went into the jaws of death’ over the incoming train. The incident took place at a suburban railway station of Mumbai. The CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced online.

The child who was walking with a woman on the platform, suddenly lost balance and fell on the railway tracks. This incident took place at platform no. 2 of Vangani railway station in Mumbai around 5 pm on Saturday, April 17. The child would have died if not for the brave and courageous railway employee.

The Ministry of Railways has shared CCTV footage of the incident and saluted the pointsman for showing exemplary courage. The ministry tweeted: “At Vangani station of Central Railway, Pointsman Mr Mayur Shelkhe saved the life of a child just in the nick of the time. He risked his life to save the life of the child. We salute his exemplary courage & utmost devotion to the duty.”

It is visible in the footage, when the child suddenly looses balance and falls off the platform onto the tracks. His attempts to get back on the platform are unsuccessful. Shelkhe saw the boy struggling on the tracks while also noticing the oncoming train. Withou thinking for a second, he just jumped onto the railway lines and within seconds gets the child to safety. Shelkhe himself climbed the platform seconds before the train arrived.

The divisional railway manager (DRM) also posted the footage on his Twitter account while praising Shelkhe. The DRM wrote: “Excellent work done by Central Railway Mumbai Division Mr Mayur Shelkhe (Pointsman)”
