New Delhi: Mumbai Police have stepped up of Mumbai’s Chabad House, an iconic location of the city and also one of the targets of 26/11 terror attack, amid concerns of ‘terror surveillance’ of the Jewish community centre.
The development comes after Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) nabbed two terror suspects in Rajasthan and recovered Google images of the building from their custody.
According to a local daily, the Maharashtra ATS along with Pune Police its recent operation apprehended terror suspects with links to Al-Sufa terror organization, who reportedly ‘conducted surveillance on many sensitive places’ of Mumbai and allegedly planned to attack them.
The heightening of security measures around Colaba’s Chabad House comes after the ATS team shared the information with Mumbai Police Commissionerate.
A Colaba Police officer was quoted by the daily as saying that security was beefed up at the House, after ATS recovered some Google images of the Jewish community centre. A mock drill was reportedly carried out on Thursday at the centre and in & around the area.
Laptops, pen drives recovered; who are terror suspects
Maharashtra ATS has taken custody of terror suspects namely Mohammad Imran, Mohammad Yunus Khan and Mohammad Yunus Mohammad Yakub Saki.
Also, series of items including computers, laptops, pen drives and hard disks have been recovered from the accused
The ATS sleuths also recovered damning documents from the arrested accused, including Google images of Chabad House, their plot and also the execution plan.
According to the officer investigating the case, these terror suspects were hiding in a Pune flat for more than one year and were planning something wicked. How they sneaked into the city and ‘who was giving them shelter & assistance’ is being probed.
These accused have previous cases of anti-national activity against them and figure in the ‘wanted list’ of NIA too.
