Mumbai’s Versova-Bandra sea link renamed as Veer Savarkar Setu, other named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee

A month ago, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had announced on May 28, Veer Savarkar Jayanti, that the upcoming sea link will be named after him to honour his countless contributions to the state & nation.

New Delhi: Eknath Shinde government in Maharashtra on Wednesday rechristened Versova–Bandra Sea Link as Veer Savarkar Setu and named Mumbai Trans Harbour Link after Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The latter will now be known as Smruti Nhava Sheva Atal Setu.

The Chief Minister had also said that a state-level gallantry award would also be launched in the name of legendary freedom fighter.

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, born in 1883 was the leading figure of Hindu Mahasabha. His valor, stories of rebellion against the Britishers and indelible role in ousting the foreign rulers has often found place in BJP & Sena’s poll campaign.

Savarkar was arrested in 1910 and was given 50 years of jail term in 1911. He spent more than 13 years of rigorous imprisonment in Andaman’s cellular jail and after release from prison became a leading figure of Hindu Mahasabha.

The Bandra-Versova is an under construction sea link in Mumbai and will connect Versova to Bandra while cutting down travel time

Being 18 km long and 8 lane highway, this would be biggest sea bridge in the country

It will increase connectivity between Eastern & Western parts of Mumbai and will also provide fast & direct commute to upcoming Navi Mumbai airport.
