Sidhu dubs AAP ‘survey for CM face’ in Punjab as scam; lodges complaint with EC

Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) survey to decide Chief Minister’s face to Bhagwant Mann was a ”scam”.

New Delhi: In the latest development ahead of the upcoming Punjab assembly election, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) survey to decide Chief Minister’s face through telephone calls was a ”scam”. He made the allegation during a press conference on Monday. The Punjab PCC chief also filed a complaint with Election Commission against AAP over its campaign “Janta chunegi Apna CM”, alleging that it is fake propaganda as the same is not mathematically viable.

The Congress chief termed the survey fake and said that it is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) so he will complain to the EC.

Based on the results of the survey, Kejriwal-led AAP announced its CM face in the Punjab election to Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann. Reportedly, he received 93% votes, while Navjot Singh Sidhu got 3% and other votes went to Mr Kejriwal. In the survey, people were asked to cast their vote through phone and WhatsApp.

Furthermore, Navjot Singh Sidhu said that AAP’s claim that it received 21,59,437 responses on the phone line is not valid as it is a normal number. ”A normal mobile number cannot record 21 lakh calls, SMS in four days,” claimed Sidhu.

Sidhu also requested that poll panel be duty-bound to verify whether AAP attained an MCMC certificate to advertise or not and. He stated that EC should direct AAP to shut this campaign and issue a public retraction of all claims presented thereof.

Moreover, Sidhu said that AAP is making fool the people because ”around 5,000-7,000 people” needed to record 21 lakh messages. ”This is impossible,” added Sidhu.

During the conference, Sidhu said Arvind Kejriwal is a hypocrite who is trying to be the uncle of physicist Albert Einstein and Mathematician Shakuntla Devi.

Notably, Bhagwant Mann will fight the Punjab poll on AAP’s ticket from the Dhuri constituency. The election in Punjab will start on February 20 and results will come on March 10.
