New Delhi: Tightening the noose further on fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday attached his movable assets worth more than Rs 250 crore.

The attached assets include gems, jewellery and bank deposits and all of these movable assets are in Hong Kong, said the agency in a statement.

With the fresh clampdown on the fugitive dimaontaire, the total attached and seized assets stands at ₹2,650.07 crore.

The fugitive business, facing money laundering probe by ED is currently lodged in a UK jail. He has already lost his extradition plea to India in connect ion with PNB bank fraud case.

The ED has initiated an investigation by recording ECIR under PMLA in the case of PNB Bank Fraud of ₹6,498.20 crore.

“During the course of the PMLA investigation, some assets of Nirav Modi group of companies in Hong Kong were identified in the form of gems and jewelleries lying in private vaults and bank balances in accounts maintained at Hong Kong, which is provisionally attached vide instant attachment order of Rs. 253.62 Crore under Section 5 of PMLA, 2002,” ED said in statement.

Previously, the ED had seized movable & immovable assets of Nirav Modi and associates to the tune of ₹2,396.45 crore in India and abroad.
