Cheaper cylinders as ‘Rakhi gift’

A day ago, Modi government announced price cut of Rs 200 on gas cylinders for general users and Rs 400 on beneficiaries of Ujjawala Yojana scheme. This meant that gas cylinders would be available now at Rs 900 & Rs 700 respectively.

The move was described as government’s Rakhi gift to crores of women as well as poor households, who have been beset by soaring LPG prices.

Though, price cut of gas cylinders was a welcome move, it also led to political uproar as the Opposition parties saw political motive in cylinders getting cheaper and dubbed the move as ‘mockery of rakhi’.

They claimed that people are expecting more cuts and this symbolic move of reducing it by just Rs 200 won’t be suffice.

Last week, when PM Modi visited South Africa, he was also tied rakhi by women members of the Indian diaspora in Johannesburg.
