Pro-Taliban Bangladeshi held in Bengal, was plotting conspiracy to ‘attack’ temples in India

New Delhi: In a major operation, the security forces have apprehended a Bangladeshi national Jehangir Vishwas from North 24 Pargana district and unmasked an evil conspiracy to attack and harm Hindu temples across the country.

Citing Taliban example, Jehangir Vishwas was trying to instigate and incite people on social media and was looking to ‘build a team’ that could carry out attacks on temples across the country.

He and his associates have also been found to be involved in damaging some temples in Tamil Nadu, reports said.

According to sources, Jehangir was living in the Bashirhaat region of India-Bangladesh border with a fake identity. He had infiltrated into India with a fake visa. Police first tracked him down in Tamil Nadu but he managed to give a slip and fled from there. Sensing trouble, Jehangir also tried to cross border and flee to his native place but BSF forces caught hold of him in the ‘nick of time’.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe. Jehangir is reportedly 28-year-old and is a native of Nalra village in Saatkheera district of Bangladesh. According to intel sources, he had sneaked into Indian territory, 8 years ago and lived at the border with fake identity. He went to Tamil Nadu and worked as a mason for some time. For last few days, he was reportedly posting hateful content targeting the majority community. He was built connections with other Bangladeshi nationals living in the region.

‘Revenge’ for Babri demolition, the motive behind conspiracy?

According to sources with information on NIA probe, the accused was in ‘high spirits’ after Taliban captured Afghanistan. He plotted a conspiracy to attack at least 10 temples across the country and for this, he was reaching out to ‘like-minded miscreants’ for carrying out strikes. He and his aides also damaged a few temples in Tamil Nadu. Police arrested 3 people for attempt to create social unrest.
