New Delhi: Popular Indian singer Daler Mehndi was on Thursday arrested by Punjab police.
His arrest comes in connection with human trafficking case, filed against him years ago.
A Patiala court had in 2018 sentenced the Punjabi pop singer to 2 years in jail in the human trafficking case, however, he was released on bail bond.
Reports suggest that the court decided to uphold the sentencing awarded to him in the human trafficking case. Patiala Additional Session Judge HS Grewal has ordered immediate arrest of singer Daler Mehndi.

Case dates back to 2003
Daler & his brother Shamsher Mehndi were accused of taking ‘passage money’ from Indians wanting to immigrate abroad.
The Patiala court had booked Daler & his brother on a complaint lodged by Bakshish Singh. Later, more than 30 complaints were filed against him, accusing the singer of fraud.
The complainants alleged that the singer & his brother took ‘commission’ to help them migrate to US but didn’t fulfill their promise.
Mehndi brothers reportedly took 2 troupes to the United States in 1998 & 1999 but ended up dropping some of them illegally.
The Patiala police also raided the singer’s offices in Connaught Place in New Delhi and seized documents pertaining to ‘passage money’ as received by Mehndi brothers.
