Sadhus assaulted in Bengal: Ram Temple chief priest takes ‘Mumtaz Khan’ jibe at Mamata Banerjee

BJP IT-cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted, “In Mamata Banerjee’s regime, a terrorist like Shahjahan Sheikh gets state protection and sadhus are being lynched. It is a crime to be a Hindu in West Bengal.”

New Delhi: Shri Ram Janambhoomi Teerth Kshetra chief priest Acharya Satyender Das on Saturday condemned the brutal assault on three sadhus in West Bengal’s Purulia and hit out at the Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee for ‘allowing targeted attack’ on particular community.

The chief priest, while speaking to news agency ANI, referred to multiple attacks on Hindu procession in the TMC-ruled state and also Mamata’s ‘aversion’ for Hinduism and ‘amity’ for particular community.

Taking a Mumtaz Khan jibe at West Bengal chief minister, he claimed that ‘she gets angry whenever she sees the Bhagwa colour’

“Someone had given the name Mumtaz Khan to Mamata Banerjee. Attacks have happened on processions on Ram Navami and other religious processions,” Das said.

“She (Mamata Banerjee) gets angry when she sees the ‘Bhagwa’ colour and this is why she makes these attacks happen…These incidents of attacks are highly condemnable,” he added.

BJP tears into TMC govt

A slew of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including Union Minister Anurag Thakur tore into Mamata dispensation for murderous attack on the Hindu seers and alleged that the attackers had the ‘blessings’ of TMC govt.

“Appeasement politics has created such an environment. Law and order have collapsed in West Bengal…the question is why is there such anti-Hindu thinking?” Anurag Thakur said.

BJP IT-cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted, “In Mamata Banerjee’s regime, a terrorist like Shahjahan Sheikh gets state protection and sadhus are being lynched. It is a crime to be a Hindu in West Bengal.”

What happened in Purulia?

The thrashing of sadhus in Bengal’s Purulia district, which has triggered fierce verbal fight between BJP and TMC, happened on Friday. A video of the incident went viral on social media, where three people in saffron robes were seen brutally beaten & thrashed by a mob.

The BJP leaders claimed that the attackers were people affiliated with the Trinamool Congress.

As per Purulia Superintendent of Police (SP) Avijit Banerjee, 12 suspects have been arrested in the incident.

According to him, the incident happened when sadhus travelling in a vehicle stopped near three girls heading for pooja at a local mandir and ‘asked for something’.

The girls reportedly misunderstood them for ‘kidnappers’ apparently because of language issues. The situation then turned chaotic as locals confronted the sadhus, questioned their motives and then started beating them black & blue. The mob assaulted the sadhus and also vandalised their vehicle.
