Newly appointed Mumbai CP Hemant Nagrale had a troubled past with his wife Pratima

In March 2008, Nagrale’s wife Pratima wrote a complaint letter against husband Hemant Nagrale to government departments including then CM Vilasrao Deshmukh. Pratima, in her complaint, stated that her husband tried to force her out of the residence and threatened to put her in a mental hospital if she doesn’t keep distance from him.

New Delhi: Senior IPS officer Hemant Nagrale was on Wednesday appointed Mumbai Police Commission and is set to take charge after the shunting out of incumbent Parambir Singh.

The 1987 batch IPS officer is a decorate personnel with several awards in his kitty. He is the recipient of President’s Police Medal along with several accolades.

However, he hasn’t been lucky in his personal life. Marital discord, ugly fight with his wife Pratima made headlines during the years 2008-09 when he was Deputy Inspector General of Police.

His wife even levelled harassment charges against him and the matter went to court.

Wife complained of harassment by Nagrale in 2008

In March 2008, Nagrale’s wife Pratima wrote a complaint letter against husband Hemant Nagrale to government departments including then CM Vilasrao Deshmukh. Pratima, in her complaint, stated that her husband tried to force her out of the residence and threatened to put her in a mental hospital if she doesn’t keep distance from him.

Pratima had alleged that Hemant, a 1987 batch officer, had been physically torturing her to get a divorce.

“If he can prove that I am mad, it would be easier for him to get his way,” she told a press conference that time.

Meanwhile, Param Bir Singh has been transferred and posted as DG Home Guard, says Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. Sachin Vaze was directly reporting to Param Bir Singh National Investigative Agency (NIA) on Wednesday confirmed that the person, seen in a CCTV grab walking near Reliance Industries chairperson Mukesh Ambani's residence on the night of February 25 when an explosive-laden vehicle was found, was Sachin Waze.

She also alleged that Nagrale tried to prove that she and her family suffered from psychiatric disorders since 2001 and was under treatment for the same. Following the complaint, Pratima was accorded 1 personnel protection and 1 jawan used to accompany her.

IPS officer refused wife to let enter home, drew anger on social media

In year 2009, Pratibha went to Hemant’s official residence in Colaba but he refused to allow her in. Following this, she filed an application at Colaba police station about the perceived threat from her estranged husband.

Despite being married for 20 years, she filed numerous cases against her husband alleging mental and physical harassment.

Family court allowed their divorce, HC set aside order

Hearing Hemant Nagrale’s complaint, the family court granted permission to dissolve the marriage and gave the custody to the celebrated police officer.

However, the Bombay High Court set aside order passed by the family court, grating divorce to Hemant Nagrale, then 46, from his wife Pratima Nagrale, 41, saying that the trial court has committed manifest error in exercise of discretion.
