Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan critical, on oxygen support: Lucknow hospital

Azam Khan and his son were shifted to the hospital from the Sitapur prison for COVID-19 treatment on May 9. His son is in stable condition.

New Delhi: Senior Samajwadi Party leader and MP Azam Khan’s health condition is critical and he is currently on oxygen support, said Medanta Hospital in Lucknow on Saturday. He and his soin had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.

The hospital had said on Wednesday that Azam Khan’s condition is serious but he is under control while the condition of his son, Mohammad Abdullah Khan, is stable. Azam Khan and his son were shifted to the hospital from the Sitapur prison for COVID-19 treatment on May 9.

Criminal Cases

Azam Khan faces more than 100 cases and has been in Sitapur jail along with his son since February 2020. His wife Tanzeen Fatima, who is also a MLA from Samajwadi Party, was released from the jail last year after getting bail in the forgery case from the court.

Samajwadi Party took out a ‘Cycle March’ in March this year to highlight Khan’s incarceration. Khan has various cases lodged against him with charges like encroachment, land grab, power theft, book theft, statue theft, goat theft, buffalo theft, and intimidation.
