This Diwali, go ‘vocal for local’, help local craftsmen prosper, appeals Union Minister Smriti Irani

Taking to Twitter, Union Minister wrote, “Prime Minister has called for making ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign into a public movement. Let’s come together and purchase local products as it will encourage and empower local artisans and craftsmen.”

New Delhi: As the nation battles the onslaught of Covid-19 epidemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call for ‘turning crisis into opportunity’ and ‘go vocal for local’ appeal is finding strong resonance among public.

With Diwali approaching, Union Minister Smriti Irani has appealed to people to go #Local4Diwali.

Taking to Twitter, Union Minister wrote, “Prime Minister has called for making ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign into a public movement. Let’s come together and purchase local products as it will encourage and empower local artisans and craftsmen.”


Union Minister also posted a video on Twitter account, asking her followers to ‘take pledge to buy local’. The video has found strong traction and has fetched more than 40,000 views in just 1 hour.


Another BJP MP Babul Supriyo tweeted from his verified account and urged all to go vocal for local.


“PM Shri @narendramodi has given a clarion call to promote local products and be vocal for them. This Diwali, let’s support our craftsmen, artisans and local businesses and be the reason for their celebration. Buy local handmade products. #Local4Diwali,” he tweeted.

‘Vocal for Local’ is the Diwali theme this year

Local craftsmen and artisans are said to be in big demand this year. Not just Centre, state governments are also taking steps to ensure expansion of local trade and consumption.

Many Bollywood celebrities have urged people to respond positively to government appeal to promote local businesses during Diwali.
Sikandar Kher took to his Instagram and shared a video of himself encouraging his fans to ‘Go Local’ this Diwali.

He captioned the video as, “Look spanking this Diwali. Support our local artisans and textile establishments.” He added #Local4Diwali and tagged Minister of Textile, Smriti Irani on the post.
