A suicide note has also been recovered from the spot. TV reports suggest that the Mahant Giri has blamed one of his disciples Swami Anand Giri for his death in the suicide note.

New Delhi: Mahant Narendra Giri, the president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad (ABAP), was found dead at his residence in Prayagraj on Monday, under mysterious circumstances.

The sudden death of Prayagraj’s top seer has alarmed the administration and police have reached the spot. Suspicion of foul play in his death has further ignited the situation and police team has already begun investigation to ascertain the cause of his death.

According to reports, the room door was locked from inside and was to be broken. When the police team entered his room, Narendra Giri Maharaj was found hanging from a nylon rope.

A suicide note has also been recovered from the spot. TV reports suggest that the Mahant Giri has blamed one of his disciples Swami Anand Giri for his death in the suicide note.

The seer was 72-years-old and had also been infected with Covid-19 earlier in April. He was hospitalised but got well after treatment and was discharged from hospital.

Mahant Narendra Giri’s differences with disciple Anand Giri

Mahant Narendra Giri was the revered figure of the Ashram and had immense following not just among the saint community but also among common masses and influential classes.

However, reports of differences between him and one of his disciple Swami Anand Giri emerged. Yoga guru Swami Anand Giri of the Bade Hanuman temple, despite being a sanyasi, remained connected to his family and this was probably the reason for differences. When the dispute between them escalated, disciple Anand Giri was sacked from Baghambari Math.

Following the death of Mahant Narendra Giri, his disciple Swami Anand Giri speaking to a news channel claimed innocence and said that he was in no way involved. He called it a conspiracy by those elements who created a divide between him and his guru Mahant Narendra Giri Maharaj.

“Those who succeeded in separating us are behind his death”, he told the channel.

When asked to give names, Swami Anand Giri further claimed that he feared for his life and would not disclose any name.
