UP’s economic activity back on track after Lockdown, state ranks 5th in exports

Today, UP ranks 5th in the country in terms of exports, leaving behind states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Delhi, Kerala, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi: Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown resulted in dwindling of economic activity, globally. India implemented a strict lockdown to fight off the virus and paid a huge price for this as the GDP growth almost fell to minus 24%

Uttar Pradesh also witnessed halt in economic activity in 1st eight months of financial year i.e. April – November 2020 but it has now regained its momentum and now moving at brisk pace.

UP’s exports also tanked during that time. But after lockdown, the export business is back on track due to the concrete decisions taken by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to promote exports. Not only this, Uttar Pradesh has been ranked at 5th spot for its rapid strides in field of exports.

According to a comparative study of the government, from April to November in the year 2019, products worth Rs 14,84,386.50 crore were exported from the country of which Rs 80,058.44 crore worth products were exported from UP. During the Corona crisis, when products worth Rs 12,99,354.87 crore were exported from the country from April to November in 2020, products worth Rs 72508.14 crore were sent abroad from UP in the same period.

According to information received from the authorities, when the country’s export business fell sharply during the Corona crisis, only then the export business of UP had decreased by about 30 percent. Taking cognisance of this, CM Yogi took many decisions to promote the export business of the province.

30% decline in the export business of UP has been brought down to 9.43%. Due to this, UP succeeded in achieving the fifth rank in the field of exports. The exporters of the state are of the opinion that, behind getting this rank, the efforts of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the propelling force.

UP ranks Number 1 in exports of other textiles, floor coverings, meats brass decorative products, toys, sports parts and wood products. And UP accounts for 4.55 percent of the country’s exports.

Apart from this, exports of rice and iron ore and the products of the state’s ODOP scheme have also increased.
