Uttarakhand: 15 people electrocuted, were engaged in Namami Gange project in Chamoli

The ‘sudden spell of death’ happened after a transformed exploded on the banks of Alaknanada river, reports said.

New Delhi: In a tragic development, at least 15 people are reported to have been electrocuted in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Wednesday.

The ‘sudden spell of death’ happened after a transformed exploded on the banks of Alaknanada river, reports said.

The tragic incident has also left many injured, who have been rushed to the hospital.

These workers are said to be working for the Namami Gange project in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

Police and rescue teams have reached the mishap site and relief & rescue effort is being done.

According to reports, one policeman also lost life in the unfortunate incident.

Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar told a news agency that Pipalkoti outpost in-charge was among those killed.

CM Dhami orders magisterial enquiry

Taking stock of the Chamoli deaths, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered a magisterial enquiry. He also informed about swift rescue operations being undertaken by state police & SDRF in close co-ordination with state administration.

“It is a sad incident. District administration, police, and SDRF have reached the spot. The injured are being referred to higher centre and are being shifted to AIIMS Rishikesh via helicopter. Orders have been given to conduct a Magisterial inquiry,” CM Dhami told ANI.
