‘Viral infections rise in winter, take booster dose’: Dr. R Guleria on Covid19 infection rise

Dr. VK Paul, Member-Health, NITI Aayog after Union Health Minister’s meeting on COVID said one must use masks in crowded spaces, indoors or outdoors.

New Delhi: As reports about the recent spike in Covid cases in China and other countries have once again turned out to be one of the major concerns health experts warning the public to take proper precautions and to stay safe.

Dr. R Guleria said extra care should be taken and it is important for people, especially high-risk groups, to protect themselves & take booster doses.

He said our Country’s situation is much better as compared to that of China because the vaccination strategy has been very successful here.

Most of the people in the high-risk group have taken booster doses & natural infection has happened, he said.

 

Dr Guleria said that covid19 cases are not rising anywhere but there is a need to be vigilant.

He said proper surveillance is needed so that if cases rise anywhere we pick it up at the earliest & conduct testing so that it can be seen that no new variant is coming up &not spreading further.

Use of masks in public/ crowded places

Dr. VK Paul, Member-Health, NITI Aayog after Union Health Minister’s meeting on COVID said one must use masks in crowded spaces, indoors or outdoors.

He also said this is more important for people with comorbidities or who are of higher age.

Dr. VK Paul said only 27-28 percent of people have so far taken the precautionary dose.

He also appealed to others, especially senior citizens, to take precautionary doses.

Precaution dose is mandated and guided to everyone, he said further.

Mansukh Mandaviya chairs COVID-19 meeting

Today, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also chaired a meeting with health officials over the COVID-19 situation.

After the meeting, the Government of India advised the States/UTs to send samples of all Covid-19 positive cases to INSACOG labs to facilitate tracking of new variants.

Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said covid19 is not yet over. He also directed all concerned to be on the alert, and strengthen surveillance.

He also urged people to take the COVID vaccination.
