VIRAL Video: Andhra Councilor beats himself with slippers, becomes talk of town

Venting his outburst & frustration in a moving speech, he said that he has been Councillor for 31 months but he was unable to solve basic civic issues of drainage, power, sanitation, roads and other problems in his constituency.

New Delhi: A Councilor of Narsipatnam municipality in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh started beating himself with his slippers, while a Council meeting was underway on Monday. The Councilor’s act left the fellow members startled & surprised as he thrashed himself with his slippers. He reportedly did it out of frustration for not being able to fulfil his electoral promises and failing to persuade the civic authorities for welfare work in his ward.

His rare act was recorded on camera and went viral on social media, soon after the incident. Though, elected representatives usually grab headlines with their chest thumping claims but this Councilor’s unqiue & unorthodox act took everyone by surprise, as his video got circulated & shared on internet.

The 40-year-old Councilor Mulaparthi Ramaraju blamed it on the ignorance of local civic bodies for ‘unsatisfactory’ work in his constituency. He was apparently frustrated over not being able to fulfill the promises, that he made to his voters.

The video was shared by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on their Twitter handle. In the video, the Councilor could be seen weeping and slapping himself with his slippers. maraju was supported by TDP in the local polls.

Councilor, a rickshaw driver by profession

Notably, Ramaraju, being a Councillor of Ward No 20 of Lingapuram village, is a rickshaw driver by profession. He ekes out his living by driving auto rickshaw but over the years, he has endeared himself to the people of the city by reaching out to them in difficult situations and also serving their basic necessities.

He said that he would rather prefer dying than failing to keep his promises.
