She later reveals that she had taken lessons to learn the language, further impressing viewers.

As Maurie approached the tea shop, she went to the counter to order some tea. Rather than asking for tea in English or any other language, she opted to speak the local language with the staff.

She hinted at her love for tea by mentioning her craving for it despite the 27-degree Celsius weather. “It’s like 27 degrees outside right now, so there’s no reason for me to drink chai. But mennu chai chahdiya tar mi ki kara (what can I do if I want chai),” she wrote.

Maurie’s Punjabi left the staff impressed

She began by greeting the staff with a simple “Hello,” to which they responded, “yes, please…” Moments later, Maurie asked if the staff understood Punjabi. When they confirmed they did, she switched to speaking in Punjabi. “Mein ithho chai kardeed sakthiya?” she inquired, asking if she could get some chai.

This brief exchange surprised the staff, prompting them to ask how Maurie learned the language. She explained, “I used to take Punjabi lessons at the University (of Toronto, Canada). There was a class for learning Punjabi.” The staff then complimented her on her impressive language skills, saying, “Very nice Punjabi.”
