Who is Manish Kashyap? Bihar YouTuber who hogged headlines from behind bars

Hordes of his supporters welcomed the court ruling on his prolonged incarceration over a ‘frivolous’ charge and slammed the Nitish administration for punishing him rather than getting to the truth of what the YouTuber ‘unearthed’ in Tamil Nadu.

New Delhi: Manish Kashyap, the popular YouTuber from Bihar was released from Patna’s Beur jail on Saturday. His release from prison was slated for Friday but the court papers didn’t reach the jail administration on the same day and hence his release got postponed by a day.

Manish Kashyap’s release from Beur jail turned into celebration for many of his fans & well-wishes as they assembled outside the jail premises for giving a warm welcome. As the Bihar YouTuber, accused of propagating fake news, came out of Beur jail, he was greeted by hundreds of his supporters while others garlanded him.

Hordes of his supporters welcomed the court ruling on his prolonged incarceration over a ‘frivolous’ charge and slammed the Nitish administration for punishing him rather than getting to the truth of what the YouTuber ‘unearthed’ in Tamil Nadu.

How Manish Kashyap shot to limelight?

Manish Kashyap hogged national attention, earlier this year, when he recorded a video of alleged abuse & harassment of Bihar migrant workers in Tamil Nadu and urged the JD(U)-RJD alliance government to shield its residents in other states.

However, this backfired. The YouTuber was booked by Tamil Nadu’s MK Stalin government under National Security Act (NSA) and accused of propagating fake news & fanning public sentiments. Manish’s imprisonment in Bihar’s Beur jail also gave fodder to political parties.

How he got ‘supreme’ relief?

Manish had moved Supreme Court against the invocation of NSA against him and he also got relief from the top court. He was to be sent to Tamil Nadu for trial in case but again got relief from a Patna civil court. It ordered against transferring Manish to Tamil Nadu for the offence.

Following this, he was kept in Bihar’s Beur jail. Currently, there are multiple cases against him, which include violent scuffle with a bank manager & also a BJP legislator.

How Manish’s outburst from jail made news?

Manish Kashayp, while being taken to court for hearing in the case in September, made news when he spoke to media and slammed the Bihar administration.

“I am not a fodder thief. I am a soldier’s son,” he said taking a stinging jibe at Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav.
Voicing his protest, he had said that he was imprisoned with druggies & addicts and was ‘made to live in a hell.’

While boasting about his family’s army legacy, he also threw a dare at the incumbent political system and said that he would teach governance to people in power, thereby prompting speculation about his political plunge.
