New Delhi: Swami Swaroopanad Saraswati, an Indian religious leader, died at the age of 99 in Madhya Pradesh’s Narainghpur on Sunday. He reportedly passed away due to age-related issues. He was famous as the President of Akhil Bharatiya Ram Rajya Parishad.

Jagatguru Shankaracharya celebrated his 95th birthday at Vrindavan in 2018. According to reports, his last rite will be performed on Monday.

Who was Swami Swaroopanad Saraswati?

Swami Swaroopanad Saraswati was born in Madhya Pradesh’s Dighori village of Seoni district on September 2, 1924. He left his home at the age of 9 to begin his journey to uplift Hinduism after understanding the religion. He was said to be a direct disciple of Shankaracharya Barahmanada Saraswati of Jytri Math. He spent his time in the math, starting from 1941 to 1953.

He was also famous as ”Revolutionary Sadhu” as he became a freedom fighter in the Quit India movement in 1942 at the age of 19. However, he was arrested and jailed for his action for 9 months and another 6 months.

In 2014, he said that Article 370 should be removed from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). After the abrogation of the article in 2019, he acclaimed it and said that it would be beneficial for the people in the state.
