New Delhi: It has been a year since the death of Delhi Police constable Amit Rana, the first Covid casualty in police force. But, his family is still awaiting Rs 1 crore compensation as was promised by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
31-year-old Amit Rana was a resident of Haryana’s Sonipat and was posted at the Bharat Nagar police station in northwest Delhi.
Writing a letter to Delhi Chief Minister, the Delhi’s cop wife has reminded him of the compensation promised made to his family and also asked him to facilitate its disbursal.
In a letter written in Hindi, Ms. Pooja wrote, “Amit was posted in Bharat Nagar police station and on May 5. While serving the people of the city, he contracted the virus and died shortly after. In that time of grief, remembering my husband’s services, you had announced a sum of ₹1 crore help,” she wrote to the Chief Minister.
1 year on,Late @DelhiPolice Constable Amit Kumar’s wife has written to CM @ArvindKejriwal requesting him to give her the sum of Rs 1cr he had promised after Amit died of #Covid19 in May 2020. His was the first death in the force.
She has 4-yr-old son&4 months old daughter.

“However, a year has passed but she still hasn’t received the promised amount,” she wrote further.
It was announced on Twitter and by the media that we will receive the compensation. Some families received help within 10 days then why is there discrimination here? I have a four-year-old son and a four-month-old daughter. I am worried about their future. If a Chief Minister doesn’t fulfill his promises, I might never be able to trust anyone else, she further wrote in the letter.
