Will Azam Khan quit Samajwadi Party? His aide’s remarks on Yogi sets off exit buzz

At a meeting at his office in Rampur, speculations are rife that he may quit SP and float his over party. His supporters are miffed at party’s ‘cold behaviour’ towards him and believe that Azam Khan was ‘sacrificed’ in 20222 elections.

New Delhi: Dissent after the debacle in elections is what defines current state of affairs of Samajwadi Party (SP). Shaifqur Rehman Barq, party MP from Sambhal yesterday lashed out at the party leadership for ignoring and shunning the Muslim community and now party veteran Azam Khan’s ‘disillusion’ with the party is coming to fore.

At a meeting at his office in Rampur, speculations are rife that he may quit SP and float his over party. His supporters are miffed at party’s ‘cold behaviour’ towards him and believe that Azam Khan was ‘sacrificed’ in 20222 elections.

Speculation about possible rift within came to fore after Khan’s media in-charge Fasahat Khan alias Sanu claimed that Azam Khan was made to languish in jail and the SP chief didn’t care to meet him in prison.

An open endorsement of Yogi Adityanath’s statement triggered a strong buzz about his exit.

“Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s comment was right that Akhilesh Yadav doesn’t want Azam Khan to be out (of jail). We made you and Mulayam Yadav Uttar Pradesh CM but you didn’t make Azam Khan as Leader of Opposition. You only went once to meet him in the jail,” Farsat said at a meeting of party office in Rampur.

Azam Khan has been lodged in Sitapur jail since February 2020 and his aide also claimed that Akhilesh went to meet him in prison, just once in 2 years. This year, he won the Assembly elections for 10th time from behind the bars.

Speculation over Khan’s exit is gaining ground as Akhilesh’s uncle has also carved out his ‘exit plan’ from the party. He is likely to snap ties with Akhilesh Yadav-led party soon.
