“Will Be Kindergarten”: Opposition, Netizens at odds as parliament censors words like corrupt, ashamed and more

Revised booklet has drawn sharp criticism and backlash, with opposition leaders and social media users taking sarcastic dig at the government

New Delhi: In a freshly issued booklet by the Lok Sabha secretariat, a long list of words and expressions has been released which will be considered ‘unparliamentary’, and MPs will be barred from using them in both the houses of parliament from now on.

Apart from terms such as jumlajeevi, baal buddhi, Snoopgate, and Covid spreader, common words like corrupt, hypocrisy, incompetent, drama, abused, ashamed, and betrayal has been banned too.

Interestingly, the booklet has been released ahead of Monsoon Session set to begin on July 18. The document in question further contains expressions like Shakuni, taanashah, dictatorial, Jaichand, Khalistani, vinash purush, khoon se kheti, girgit, gaddar, and ghadiyali ansu, among others.

Meanwhile, on the social and political front, the revised booklet has drawn sharp criticism and backlash with leaders of the opposition and social media users taking a sarcastic dig at the government for banning even the most common expression.

Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra tweeted, “Basically govt taken all words used by opposition to describe how BJP destroying India & banned them”.

Congress leader Shama Mohamed took to her Twitter handle and wrote, “Words like ‘ashamed’, ‘abused, ‘betrayed’, ‘corrupt’, ‘hypocrisy’ & ‘incompetent’ will henceforth be considered unparliamentary in Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha This is preposterous. Left to the govt, only words like ‘acche din’, ‘vikas’ & ‘vishwaguru’ would be used in Parliament!”
